The team at the new Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute wanted to create a space that provided a moment’s respite from the demands of hospital activities.

Cite Design was enlisted to envision the Healing Garden, which uses sensory elements & thoughtful arrangement to serve patients, visitors, & staff with a therapeutic experience that will provide serenity, engagement of the senses, and mental rejuvenation. The curved pergola structure and sloped seating walls encased by lush landscaping creates a pleasing and calming space. A water feature and sculptural art piece promotes moments of peace and reflection.

In an effort to encourage relational connection, the courtyard contains movable furniture including café tables and rocking chairs on the patio space.

Cite Design was also tasked with creating inviting, visually pleasing landscaped parking lot islands as a welcoming moment on site. These islands are landscaped with canopy trees to provide shade and texture. Select parking lot islands near the site entry and focal areas include understory plantings to accent trees, provide variety, and seasonal color. A 35’-wide, densely landscaped buffer is along the south property line to provide privacy and screening.
