Belmont, a course steeped in history, underwent a revitalization in 2020 with the primary goal of making it accessible to the community. Designed in 1917 by Hall of Fame Golf Course Architect A.W. Tillinghast, Belmont is one of two public Tillinghast courses to have hosted a major championship.

“The Cite Design team was instrumental in First Tee’s efforts to reimagine Belmont Golf Course. Their planning and design expertise was invaluable in bringing about many facets of the updated design. From signage and the bell, to plantings and hardscape details, the Cite Design team had a hand in envisioning many of the facility upgrades. We couldn’t be happier to have partnered with the Cite Design team in bringing Belmont back.”

Brent Schneider CEO, First Tee – Greater Richmond

In 2019, Henrico County sought a partner to operate the course and reimagine a facility that would open Belmont to the larger community and focus on sharing the love of golf with youth and community organizations. In 2020, First Tee – Greater Richmond partnered with Love Golf Design to transform the facility, and Cite Design was able to support the revitalization process by assisting with planning and design of key features on the site.

Cite Design’s fingerprints can be seen around the property – from the entry monument signage welcoming you to Belmont, to lush landscape designs providing pivotal screening opportunities, and beautifully crafted hardscape details creating polished areas for patrons to gather.

And we cannot forget the ever prominent bell in front of the Starter House – reserved for ringing by those skilled or lucky enough to make a hole in one! Our team was honored to play a role in ‘bringing Belmont back!’
